You Make My Dreams by Tim Halperin

This week’s Love Playlist addition is “You Make My Dreams” by Tim Halperin. I had no idea this song was a remake of that old Hall & Oates song I used to blast on my radio in the 80’s! My sister sang it on her wedding day to her husband last month. The day before she asked us (her sisters) to sing backup, which was typical Knudsen style: the first rehearsal was the performance. But we always pull it off somehow, and we’re so happy that she’s finally found her person who makes her so happy and made her dreams come true.

Isn’t it amazing that you can redo a song and completely change the entire feel? Forty years later someone changes the tempo, removes the background instruments, and 1980 feels like 2020. You can’t tell the song is even the same, until you listen to the words, which are timeless. It’s one of the reasons why I love music so much. You can create a thousand different songs with one song. Genius!!

On a night when bad dreams become a screamer
When they’re messin’ with a dreamer
I can laugh it in the face
Twist and shout my way out
And wrap yourself around me

I’m down on the daydream
This sleepwalk should be over by now, by now
Cuz I’ve been waiting
I’m waiting for you, for you

What I want, you’ve got
And it might be hard to handle
Like a flame burns the candle
The candle feeds the flame
Well you
You make my dreams come true
